See This Movie

Invisible Children is a documentary (of sorts) on the situation of Children in Uganda. It's very current, easy to watch, and covers an issue that needs to be addressed in some way. I can't say (as someone who aspires to do documentary work myself some day) it's the most beautifully cut movie ever, but the subject material is so pressing that it's not worth complaining about. .... And the final score is...

So I copied and pasted all of my papers for this semester into one word document.

Fall Semester 2006:
Words: 22,660
Pages: 82

This figure is not including a class that I had to write about a page and a half for every week. Those of you who have noticed an extreme lack of posts on this site now understand why. I've been busy writing.

There will not be any more blog posts until after I return from Christmas break. Keep going back to the store for more information. There's a chance I'll find a way to continue updating from California, but I doubt it.

Enjoy your holidays. If you're not the sort that enjoys them, stay sane, and don't jump off any bridges before giving me a ring.

It all makes sense now...

For those of you who ever wondered why I tend to have a good number of female friends, and have frequently professed enjoying them much more (and why I tend to be attracted to them) I ran into a graphic that perfectly illustrates why. Not my own photoshopping job, so don't complain about the uglyness.

Nuff said.

How is this good?

So I just took an online survey, and it called me a "Charming Conformist" and insisted that was a good thing, citing statistics for all of the reasons why I'm not that statistically odd. Except all of the "odd" answers they gave as examples were not even selectable answers on the survey. I hate this country.

Spot the... missile silo?

Okay... so here's my suggested boredom-curing task of the day: find old ballistic missile silos. It's quite time consuming. Here's one to give you a start:
There's about 12 old ones within the hundred or so miles around this one. No, I haven't found all of them. But there are some things in the area that look suspiciously like new missile silos. And yes, there are websites that have these silos locations posted... I'll let you do the googling. Send any interesting things you find my way, it'll be great. Also, if anyone happens to have 1.5 million dollars and wants to start a club inside of one of these things, let me know- I've got some great ideas ;)

Now here's an idea...

What if someone were to launch an RSS prayer feed? Really, now. RSS- the technology that allows you to get live updated lists of information, could be used for this. New York Times and Cnet and most other large online news organizations have managed to use RSS to give people up-to-the minute news. So what would happen if someone started a site with up-to-the-minute prayer needs? I'm not sure it's a good idea, which is why I'm not working on the code right now. What d'yall think?

Be kind, rewind

I present to you... pure beauty. Some of the kids who work as conferences staff on campus got... a little bored. Enjoy.

click here to view the video

Please, if you're going to send a billion people to the video, give them the direct link- though it won't enhance my ego... er... hit counter... it will prevent this site from getting blown over. Do, however, encourage your friends to view the rest of the page. Got it?

In case you need to be reminded, you should...

I'm not a militant feminist... quite.

So... I got bored. Bored enough to fill out a quiz that is a. completely pointless, and b. not for my gender. Here are the results. You should take it yourself. I think you probably wouldn't have much fun with it unless you find yourself gravely unqualified to answer most of the questions. That was great.

I'm getting there. I don't suck, but I've got a ways to go.

Test Your Stalker Skills!!!

So... I was bored this evening, and my friend Tim York were hanging out, and playing with a little known ability of google- if you put in the right search criterion, you can navigate through different publicly accessible webcam servers. Of course, there's public and there's public. Most of the sites you run into are businesses that have absolutely no clue their camera is protected. Did I mention a lot are robotic?

Why in the crap am I telling you this? Well, we found a challenge. A challenge so special I had to create a new category of post to contain it. We know this is possible...

Your mission, should you choose to accept it (please do), is to determine where the following camera server is located, down to the street address and GPS coordinates (you must have both), using nothing but a web browser, and (if you know what it is) an IP-address geolocator. Don't worry, the geolocating won't do you much good.

http://212.61.77.247/view/index.shtml

I'm not going to give any clues, because, if you're up to the challenge, you should already know how to get the task done. The winner gets the google webcam-search-syntax (if they can't figure it out themselves), and a chance to uh... post their picture on my blog? I don't know. Basically we'll be impressed and mention how cool you are for all... 25 people who look at this blog to see. Should there be multiple winners, you can all party on my budget if you make it out here. Email your entries to me... as fast as you possibly can (come on- you came to the blog in the first place- you CLEARLY have time to kill). Enjoy. Extra points if you can tell me where to get a good cheesesteak around there.
