First "Good Monsters" Track Out!

Hey all- just thought I'd pass along this iTunes link to the first released track off of Jars of Clay's new album, Good Monsters:
Dead Man (Carry Me)

The track is a part of a compilation album, but will be on the new CD. The new Jars of Clay sound presented here has a hint of Franz Ferdinand flavor (heavy rhythm guitar, catchy beat), mixed with Dan's honest voice and deeply layered guitar and keys. It seems to be a different sort of song for Jars, but the reflections and ideas are just as meaningful as ever. Post what you think! More updates to come.

Another reason I'm ridiculous

So I survived the semester. Took too long, but I got there. And now I'm getting ready for next year. Using a 3d drafting app and measurements of the room I'm moving into. So here's an image of what I think it will likely be like-- assuming I fork out the cash for a bookcase couch, and find a mini-fridge.

For the audio dorks in the audience, yes, those guidelines are 5.1 specification lines, and yes I plan on having accurate 5.1 in my dorm room next year. I need to go through and confirm my measurements sometime soon of course, but these should be pretty close. Suggestions welcome. And yes, I'm aware the rear surround speakers aren't equidistant, but they are both on-axis, and I can't find a good way to get them where they should be.

New Site

I just put together a new website for SPEAK on Eastern University's campus. They/we are a cool organization focused on social justice causes on Eastern University's campus. Our current causes are bringing Fair Trade coffees and Sweatshop-Free tshirts to Eastern's campus, getting adequate pay for the employees that clean our campus, advocating the current Wind Energy plan, and educating when it comes to social justice issues. It's all for Christ, and there's a whole lot of new energy in the group this year. Everyone go check it out! The URL is:
http://groups.eastern.edu/~speak

All are welcome to post comments about the site, let me know if anything doesn't work right! Soon to come will be some great content focused on each of our areas of interest. Fight the power!

You Couldn't Have Dreamed This

http://www.devilducky.com/media/26951/
Mr. T. In a music video. Rapping. About mothers. In the 80's. With bad acting, 80's silk vests, bad hair, and all. It doesn't get much better than this. Or Worse.

UPDATE: Those of us who missed a good part of the 80's due to week-long bouts of napping and defecating freely inside of diapers (which includes not only those of us who were very young, but a good number more individuals, thanks to 80's culture) may have also overlooked the fact that this clip of Mr. T was not merely a random occurrence. In fact, it was part of a larger program called "Be Somebody or Be Somebody's Fool" which you can read about (and see more of) here:

The most important link yet

So how many of you have heard about the thwarted attempts to start up KAMP- a localized radio station at the astrodome and surrounding areas to assist New Orleans refugees? Maybe not many. If not, read this news article:
http://www.wired.com/news/hurricane/0,2904,68806,00.html?tw=rss.TEK
That's not the link I want you guys to have.

Rita Obey is mentioned in the articles several times, and seems to be the chief person behind the fact that this radio station is not happening. The FCC, FEMA, and other local officials are behind it, but not Rita. The attached link contains Rita Obey's office phone number. Call her, and let her know how you feel- especially about her almost-racist comment. Maybe within a day or so, we can change her mind.

I'm including this information in the link simply because I want to prove that the info was publicly available, and I did not do anything illegal to obtain it- nor am I doing anything illegal linking to it.

Adam Savage Rox my Sox

Well, if you don't know who he is already, I pity you. He's the co-host of MythBusters... quite possibly the most drew-favored show on television. That is, the build stuff, prove urban legends are stupid, and most importantly, blow stuff up in haphazard ways. And he got interviewed by the sneeze (apparently 20 hits per day isn't quite a super-site), and has some cool stories. Now they just need to interview that cute redhead on the show... no, I swear, I didn't look her bio up right after I said that. It doesn't say she's married... because I didn't read it. I guess it might. Who knows. Nevermind.

Oddness, here we come

This one's been around for a while, but it's a must-see. Here's all you need to know: it's french, it's singing, and it's downloadable video. Click here to view it, and then post a comment so we can discuss the oddity of this thing.

Checkitoutman

So here's an interesting and important article on local mac shops and their plight... and as a plus, one of the interviews is of my bro's boss. Coolness eh? Check it out.

Hollow Men Rock

... and now they're online. If you go to the Comedy Central website, you can stream individual sketches of "The Hollow Men"- a python/kids in the hall-esque show from Comedy Central. They have only made one season, and I'm not sure as to whether or not it's been cancelled (someone want to tell me? please find out for me)... but this is some funny stuff. A little racy here and there. Enjoy

See this NOW!

So... I usually don't give plugs for comedy movies. Why? Because They rarely have something for everyone. But I would suggest you are a corpse of some sort if you do not find Kung Fu Hustle absolutely hilarious in some light. See it. Enjoy. Comment. Clicky pic for IMDB

A movie that makes fun of Kung Fu movies... made by a Kung Fu movie master. "It works on so many levels." I don't think I need to say anything else. Just go see it, dangit. And kudos to Chris for reminding me to rent it.

Woo...

Facing a New World
This is a really amazing slideshow of pictures from Ellis Island, taken by Augustus Sherman, a clerk at the island, which are now part of an exhibit making the rounds (and a book, as well). Check out the nytimes article about it. And in case anyone cares, I'm not trying to plagiarize- everyone go to www.nytimes.com!!! They get all the credit.

It's really amazing how distinct of an image some of the people have here. Cool stuff.

Chris Shaw, the man-god

SO my future roommate put up a site of his own, the third to copy my cool self-named URL trick :-P... but he's a cool guy, and he's contributed 9 hits to my page, so I have to do the same for him. If everyone who reads this clicks on his page, I could give him a good 10 hits per day for a while. Wouldn't that be cool? Oh yeah. Here's the link: http://www.christophershaw.net. And oh yeah- as always, this link is going on the right hand side, should you become so lazy that you can't search for the link and want to view it again. Be ye warned: Chris sometimes comes off as a 1337 haXor.
